3-Dimensional Landscapes:
Essence of Scotland
Essence of Scotland
Inspired by the colours, textures and geology of East Lothian, Essence of Scotland captures the shifting landscape through layered, sculptural compositions.
Influenced by the legacy of James Hutton, the father of modern geology, these works reflect deep time and transformation within the land.

Each piece is constructed within a sealed perspex box, using manipulated newspaper, pastels and charcoal. Fragments of printed media embed specific moments in time (dates, politics and culture), echoing the way fossils preserve historical narratives.
These three-dimensional landscapes invite close inspection, revealing depth, strata and shifting perspectives. The surface is formed from interlocking newspaper fragments, creating both a unified composition and a collection of miniature visual studies.
