About Contemporary Scottish Artist, Seona Mason
Seona Mason is a female artist and sculptor based in Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland. Her training in fine art grew her practice from classical to contemporary. Seona's original, abstract and figurative style was discovered at art college and can be recognised in all mediums of her work, including life-drawing, collage, ceramics and mixed media.
Used Vinyl Music Records As Art
The use of vinyl music records as a sculptural material has become her niche, and her 5 years in taming the volatile material has yet to be emulated by others. The use of perspex in addition to her figurative forms creates a balance of materials, between fluid and rigid. The motion of a playing record is transformed into the 'caught-in-motion' of a figure dancing, strutting or reclining. With an interest in geology and the coastline of the East Coast of Scotland, Seona also uses stone to mount her sculptures. In such artworks, the sculptures almost look volcanic, or resembling the petrified body casts of Pompeii.
